About this Blog

This blog started as an online diary and place for me to rant about annoyances in my family.

However since July it has become a place for me to catalogue and express my views and opinions on the treatment I have recieved following the diagnosis of a potentially cancerous tumor in my bowel.

On 3rd August 2011 I was told that it was cancerous. In April 2012 I was given the all clear.

October 15th 2013 I was diagnosed with peritoneal disease and liver metastases. The cancer was back and this time it is inoperable.

It is a little bit out of date as the NHS doesn't tend to have a WiFi connection in hospital and I can only post when I get home and posts take a while to write.

It is NOT about individuals or the nursing profession. It is about some of the inadequacies in the system and the way the NHS is failing some people.

Adventures in Potty Training

We have had the potty since Isaac was 18 months old. We bought the first set of pants when he was 2. We bought him another set when he was 2.5. And now at 2 years, 10 months and 2 weeks we are having an attempt at potty training.

I have to be honest, I have felt a lot of pressure to get this done.

- From my antenatal group, I don't see them all that often and would probably have lost touch with them as I went back to work full time so early. But everytime I see them I get the repeated interogation. 'is isaac still in nappies'. I used to be able to get around this by telling people it was difficult to train him because I had Imogen. I still have Imogen but that doesn't really wash anymore.

- From my SIL who has branded me lazy for not having Isaac trained yet
- From my in laws, Father in Law won't look after Isaac until he is potty training - he won't be looking after him at all unless I am extremely desperate, and mother in law who keeps asking Isaac why he doesn't wear big boy pants.

So yesterday was the P Day - We had got the potty training books through the post and read them, Pirate Petes Potty was lovely (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pirate-Petes-Potty-Ladybird/dp/1409302202/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1305460348&sr=8-2)

We had the big boy pants all ready, been shopping for star charts and treats and about 4pm Isaac came and told me he needed a wee. That was it, nappy off and onto the potty, and nothing. We went and chose some pants and brought some spare ones downstairs just in case and showed Isaac where the potty was and nothing - Well thats not quite true, we had a wee in the booster seat, a wee in the ball pit and then when offered the potty before we went for a bath he went upstairs and weed on the bedroom floor.

This morning he asked for pants again and we were dry for about an hour, then there was a wee on the floor on the way to the potty, a wee outside (I don't really mind that), a poo, then another wee in the booster seat at lunch and another wee about 10 minutes ago.

It's 1pm, I am feeling increasingly fustrated, and annoyed.

Isaac is very bright in other areas. His speech is excellent as is his reasoning. He plays really nicely with other children and Imogen and is not very shy. He is very independent.

Is this my fault? Did I go back to work to early? Did I have my children too close together? Why can my son not potty train.

I shall report back later on
