About this Blog

This blog started as an online diary and place for me to rant about annoyances in my family.

However since July it has become a place for me to catalogue and express my views and opinions on the treatment I have recieved following the diagnosis of a potentially cancerous tumor in my bowel.

On 3rd August 2011 I was told that it was cancerous. In April 2012 I was given the all clear.

October 15th 2013 I was diagnosed with peritoneal disease and liver metastases. The cancer was back and this time it is inoperable.

It is a little bit out of date as the NHS doesn't tend to have a WiFi connection in hospital and I can only post when I get home and posts take a while to write.

It is NOT about individuals or the nursing profession. It is about some of the inadequacies in the system and the way the NHS is failing some people.

The saga continues

Quick update

3pm - wee in the potty

and a nap and dry through the nap too!!!

Things are looking up )

Adventures in Potty Training

We have had the potty since Isaac was 18 months old. We bought the first set of pants when he was 2. We bought him another set when he was 2.5. And now at 2 years, 10 months and 2 weeks we are having an attempt at potty training.

I have to be honest, I have felt a lot of pressure to get this done.

- From my antenatal group, I don't see them all that often and would probably have lost touch with them as I went back to work full time so early. But everytime I see them I get the repeated interogation. 'is isaac still in nappies'. I used to be able to get around this by telling people it was difficult to train him because I had Imogen. I still have Imogen but that doesn't really wash anymore.

- From my SIL who has branded me lazy for not having Isaac trained yet
- From my in laws, Father in Law won't look after Isaac until he is potty training - he won't be looking after him at all unless I am extremely desperate, and mother in law who keeps asking Isaac why he doesn't wear big boy pants.

So yesterday was the P Day - We had got the potty training books through the post and read them, Pirate Petes Potty was lovely (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pirate-Petes-Potty-Ladybird/dp/1409302202/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1305460348&sr=8-2)

We had the big boy pants all ready, been shopping for star charts and treats and about 4pm Isaac came and told me he needed a wee. That was it, nappy off and onto the potty, and nothing. We went and chose some pants and brought some spare ones downstairs just in case and showed Isaac where the potty was and nothing - Well thats not quite true, we had a wee in the booster seat, a wee in the ball pit and then when offered the potty before we went for a bath he went upstairs and weed on the bedroom floor.

This morning he asked for pants again and we were dry for about an hour, then there was a wee on the floor on the way to the potty, a wee outside (I don't really mind that), a poo, then another wee in the booster seat at lunch and another wee about 10 minutes ago.

It's 1pm, I am feeling increasingly fustrated, and annoyed.

Isaac is very bright in other areas. His speech is excellent as is his reasoning. He plays really nicely with other children and Imogen and is not very shy. He is very independent.

Is this my fault? Did I go back to work to early? Did I have my children too close together? Why can my son not potty train.

I shall report back later on

mothers day

Mothers day, as opposed to mothering Sunday, is commercial invention designed to make money. I have spent the day feeling more and more out of touch.

I have had 3 mothers days. 1 with just Isaac and 2 with both of them. I have never been spoilt, surprised or allowed 'me' time.

Hubby works nights so mothers day is just a normal Sunday. Do laundry, load dishwasher, cook tea. All those who brag about being spoilt should remember the origins. The day that children as young as 10th were able to return home, to their mother church. Not for you to be spoilt.

toothache

I was unfortunate enough to have my wisdom tooth taken out today by something called conscious sedation. This was a thoroughly unpleasant experience. After an injection into the back of my hand, I was blindfolded and then it all goes funny. What I think I can remember is something being put in my mouth and then I think someone made a phonecall. I don't like this, I can't remember and feel violated.
But the tooth is out!!!

False Advertising

I was watching the tv last night and started wondering about the truths told in adverts.

For example the Pampers Baby Dry advert. What parent puts their baby to sleep in just a t shirt and a nappy and not a baby - gro or sleeping bag, there is not even any sign off a blanket.

The cow and gate toddler milk advert, surely most people know that iron is not found in milk and is more commonly found in meat, chocolate and some veggies rather than milk.

Then there are all the car adverts, surely not every car will make that much difference to your lifestyle.

Oh don't even get me started on comparison website adverts or insurance adverts, I never seem to save the massive amounts of money they are promising, why not, because I shop around every year.

But some people complain about the seemingly innocuous adverts maybe the ones above need some censorship

February

Well, February was fun.
A Valentine's day to forget and a last minute dash to a&e for a digested 5p. On top of this there was the disappointment of having my breastfeeding counsellor interview cancelled and the news that the census want me to work for them. This was followed by the realisation that I will have to be in Brighton for 8.30am in March!!!
There was a high point, my little pie turned 1. Yes I, at least for the next four months am the mummy of a 1 year old and a 2 year old.

So what does March hold?
I need to knit some birthday cakes as presents, finish Sharon's birthday present, and crack on with the bobble cushions.

Crash....

No not car crashes this time, but my life coming crashing down around my ears.

I was supposed to have an interview with the NCT to train as a breastfeeding counselor. Something I am really passionate about, not just breastfeeding but the whole process and helping those who can't succeed or not feeling bad about not being able to do it. There are many ways of feeding a baby and I wanted to be able to support new parents in their feeding choices, not enforce my beliefs on them.

Note I said supposed to..... I got an email today saying the tutor group was full and all interviews were cancelled. Now call me bitter ( and I suppose I am a bit) but it seems silly to arrange to interview people when your group is full or you know that your group is about to be full. I am feeling really unsure of myself at the moment and that was the one bright thing I had to look forward too. Even if I had been interviewed and told that I wasn't going to be able to start until there was a space I would have understood, but this seems a bit haphazard.

What is also in the back of my mind is the fact that Tuesday is also applying, and she is Lex's sister and I wonder what lengths Lex would go to to make sure her little sister got a place and would that be to the detriment of me?

Am I a cynic? yes probably. So little seems to go right in my life at the moment.

I though that the crash was a blessing in disguise, no need to MOT the car or tax it, so I would be saving some cash, but this on top of that is not a good thing.

If this seems negative then that is what it is, I can't change how I feel or what my emotions are doing at the moment.

Maybe posting this will help me offload, it seems to make things clearer.

Maybe the birth stories will be next - prepare for trauma!!
